How Light works
Three roles
| Port | What it connects to |
|---|---|
| Safe | The protected network that must not stay connected to the unsafe one |
| Common | The computer or system that uses one network at a time |
| Unsafe | The external, untrusted or less controlled network |
Setting it up
Connect
Cable the Safe, Common and Unsafe ports and attach the USB Type-C cable to the computer that controls it.
Let the computer find it
It appears as a USB serial port. Some systems need the FTDI virtual COM port driver for this.
Switch
Choose the safe or the unsafe path from the control application or, on supported models, with the front-panel button.
What happens when it switches
The common port is disconnected from one side and only then connected to the other, at the physical layer. No packets are processed at any point, and no state survives in the device that could join the two sides.
