Physical separation, not a rule
ABV routes no packets and bridges no frames. A switch inside it connects one side at a time.
A recovery copy that ransomware cannot reach over the network
ABV is a 2U rack-mount appliance that copies approved backup data from your production backup storage to a recovery repository on an isolated network. The two networks are never connected, so the recovery copy has no network path an attacker can follow.

A backup is only useful if it survives the attack. Ransomware, stolen credentials and administrative mistakes reach whatever stays connected, and a backup repository that is always reachable is often the next target after production. Copying backups offline by hand is slow, irregular and hard to prove. ABV does the copying for you and keeps the recovery copy on a network that is never joined to the one it came from.
ABV routes no packets and bridges no frames. A switch inside it connects one side at a time.
File shares over SMB or NFS and S3-compatible object storage, on either side, and they need not be the same.
A transfer is reported as complete only after its integrity has been checked on the recovery side.
A copy cut short by a restart or a lost link continues from where it stopped.
You decide what is copied, when, and in which direction; the appliance does the rest.
ABV learns the normal size and pattern of each backup and alerts you when a copy departs from it, an early sign that ransomware may have reached the source.
When it ran, what it read, where it wrote, and how it was verified.
ABV does not replace your backup platform. Your backup software keeps writing to its repository as it does today; ABV takes the approved copies from there to the isolated recovery side.
